QUANTIFY - Global transport emissions 1900-2100

The project QUANTIFY („Quantifying the Climate Impact of Global and European Transport Systems“) is an Integrated Project funded by the European Commission within the 6th research framework programme. The main goal of QUANTIFY, as its name says, is to quantify the climate impact of global and European transport systems for the present situation and for several scenarios of future development. As basis, emission inventories and scenarios have been developed for aviation, maritime shipping, road transport, rail and inland navigation. Emissions related to the production of fuels for these transport modes have been calculated separately (“indirect emissions”). In addition, emissions from other sectors have been estimated (“non-transport”). Data are available for 2000, 2025, 2050 and 2100 with a resolution of 1° x 1°. The scenario data are available for the four IPCC-SRES marker scenarios A1B, A2, B1 and B2. For road transport, an additional scenario A1 HIGH is available; it explores what might happen if a high economic growth (as in the IPCC-SRES marker scenario A1B) coincides with little decoupling of road transport volumes from economic growth, and with a rather slow progress in the improvement of fuel efficiency and emission factors of road vehicles (as in the IPCC-SRES marker scenario A2). For aviation, a set of variants called A1i, A2i, B1-ACARE and B2i is available in addition to the four regular IPCC-SRES marker scenarios. For the direct transport emissions, global aggregate data are also available for the past (length of time series depending on mode, maximum till 1900).
